Fly Fishing Competition Overview On April 26, 2025, the 4th Annual Competition and the first Fly casting Competition done by MALAYSIAN PERAK Fly Fishing Syndicate took place in the scenic town of Kampar, Perak, hosted by the local organizer Perak Fly Fishing Syndicate. The one-day event ran from early morning until late at night, bringing together nearly 100 fly fishing enthusiasts from across Malaysia.
There is a chance for the establishment of Perak Fly Fishing Syndicate (PFFS) fly fishing trip... Perak Fly Fishing Syndicate (PFFS) was established in 2017 by a passionate group of local fly fishers who sought to adapt and introduce fly fishing techniques that suit Malaysia’s unique environment. They officially registered the organization with local authorities, becoming one of the first legally recognized fly fishing groups in the country.
In the early years, PFFS focused on grassroots efforts, organizing casting classes, fly tying workshops, and small fishing events. These activities gradually attracted local anglers from various fishing backgrounds who were curious to explore fly fishing. It took nearly three years of steady outreach before PFFS became widely recognized as one of Malaysia’s leading fly fishing communities.
PFFS has also embraced social media, running annual online competitions like the PFFS Tying Contest, PFFS Picture Contest, and PFFS Video Contest since 2020. These contests have grown in popularity, drawing thousands of participants from across Malaysia and showcasing the vibrant talent within the fly fishing community.
The Signature Event: Randuk For Lampam (RFL) One of PFFS’s proudest achievements is organizing Randuk For Lampam (RFL) — now considered one of the biggest fly fishing events in Malaysia. This annual event focuses on catching Malaysia’s native fish, the Lampam (Tinfoil Barb), which has become the symbolic fish of PFFS. As of 2025, the RFL is entering its fourth edition, with participant numbers increasing every year.

Fly Fishing Competition Highlights There were many exciting moments during the fly fishing competition. Let’s follow our social media ambassadors - Devendran Manogaran to review his experiences and the competition scene... As someone who only started fly fishing back in 2020/2021, he never imagined he would one day participate in a fly fishing competition. But thanks to the support and guidance from the local fly fishing community — Perak Fly Fishing Syndicate (PFFS) — he had the chance to puthis skills to the test in their recent Fly Casting Competition.
The atmosphere on competition day was electric. Around 65 participants gathered, ranging from beginners to seasoned casters. Despite the competitive setting, there was a strong sense of camaraderie. Everyone was encouraging one another, sharing tips, and exchanging stories — it felt more like a big fly fishing family gathering than a serious competition.
Memories of the fly casting competition... "Standing on the casting line, I could feel my heart racing. The pressure was on — not just to perform well, but to apply everything I had learned over the past few years. The target distances seemed much farther than they did during practice! But I focused on my breathing, recalled the lessons from Jai, Azmi, Asrul, and other PFFS members, and reminded myself why I fell in love with fly fishing in the first place — the rhythm, the precision, and the pure connection with nature".
"Each cast was a test of patience, technique, and calmness under pressure. Some casts were good, some could have been better — but every attempt was a valuable learning experience. Watching other skilled fly fishers was equally inspiring; seeing their smooth casting strokes and control motivated me to continue improving".
"What made the competition truly special wasn’t just the scores or placements, but the friendships and knowledge shared throughout the event. I learned new techniques, received constructive feedback, and most importantly, I felt part of a supportive and passionate community".
"Participating in this competition has deepened my passion for fly fishing. It reminded me that fly fishing isn’t just about catching fish — it’s about continuous learning, personal growth, and being part of a community that shares the same love for the sport".
At the end of the fly casting competition, the organizer and our brand ambassador presented awards to the winners...
